THE DIOCESE GETS A NEW PRIEST

Deacon Santosh Bapu of Palahalli, Mysore, was ordained Priest for the Diocese of Gulbarga by Bishop Robert on 18th April, 2008.


TWO MORE WOMEN RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES TO COLLABORATE WITH THE DIOCESE OF GULBARGA :

Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) started their community at Gulbarga in early June '08 Holy Cross Sisters ( Menzinger) have started their community in the town of Aland, Gulbarga District.

 

SHALOM - the new House for Basavakalyan Mission was blessed by Bishop Robert on Sunday, 26th 2008 at Basavakalyan. The Mission runs St. Antony Bala Kalyan Ashram for orphans and children from broken families.

 

DR.OHM's INDO-GERMAN HOSPITAL

was blessed by bishop Robert and inaugurated the Provincial of Bethany Sisters, (Dharwad Province) on 19th November, 2008, at Chittapur. Dr. Ohm and his friends from Germany financed this establishment . The Hospital has a dental clinic and the facility for plastic surgery for cleft lips.


 

SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATION:

The Silver Jubilee of Bhalki Mission was solemnly celebrated on 12- 13 November , 2008. The procession in honour of Infant Jesus in Bhalki town. the solemn thanksgiving Eucharistic Celebration presided by the Bishop, the fellowship meal and the concluding cultural programme made the Event a joyous and memorable one. Fr. Benjamine D'Souza, the pioneer missionary of Bhalki Mission, Mr. Ishwer Khandre, MLA, V. Rev Sr. Irene Fernandes, the Provincial of the Sisters of Charity, Most Rev Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga were the prominent dignitaries on the occasion.


KRIPALAYA

The newly built bishop's House was inaugurated and blessed on 1st November 2008, in the presence of a large gathering of dignitaries from all walks of life, Priests, Sisters and Laity. Bishop Henry D'souza of Bellary Diocese, Syed Hussain Kusru, Bande Nawaz, Sri Sri. Mahanta Swamy of Sulapala Math were the special guests of honour.

 

DECENNIAL CELEBRATION:


The decennial celebration of St. Joseph English Medium School, Bidar was celebrated in November. About 3, 000 people besides over 5oo students were part of the grand cultural evening.


Inter Religious Prayer Meeting.

Prayer meeting

The New Year 2008 began at ?Mother of Divine Grace Cathedral?, Gulbarga with an Inter-religious Prayer meeting for ?Peace in Orissa?.

A good number of religious leaders of different faith, political leaders of various political parties and people in high office were present.

After the prayer, they addressed the gathering, condemned the communal forces and their attacks on question in Orissa and pledged to work for peace and communal Harmony. The dignitaries present were,

Three new priests for Gulbarga.

 

Dn. Anil Prasad, the first priest of Sacred Heart Church, Bidar, was ordained on 15th April 2007 on the occasion of the Parish Silver Jubilee Celebrations.

New Priests

Dns Cyril Lobo and George Lobo were ordained priest at Vincent Farer Church Valencia, Mangalore on 23rd April 2007. The diocese of Gulbarga while congratulating them on the occasion of their priestly ordination welcomes them warmly into the diocese.

 

Sr. Sheela B.S, the first sister to make final profession in Bidar Mission
Sheela Sagar, the youngest daughter of John Madappa Sagar and Cecilia Lakshmi Sagar of BeeriB village at Bhalki, joined the Bethany Congregation in 1997. She made her first profession at Rosa Mystica Convent, Mangalore in April 2001. Having completed her religious formation she did General Nursing at St. Johns Medical College Hospital, Bangalore. It was a joyous and historic moment for the people of Bhalki, specially at village Beeri-B.S. as she made her Final Profession in Bethany Congregation on 27th April. Gulbarga Diocese congratulates Sr. Sheela Sagar B.S. and hopes many more young girls in this mission diocese will take her example.


Vocation to Priesthood

A warm welcome to Bro. Salvadore Fernandes, Bro. Victor Vas, Bro. Wilbert Lobo who having spent one year in the mission have opted for the Diocese of Gulbarga. They now continue their studies in Theology at St. Josephs Seminary Mangalore and St. Peters Pontifical Seminary. Bangalore. We also welcome Bros. David, Clevon, Vincent Thoras and Devaraj who have now joined the Pre-Philosophy at St.Josephs Mangalore and Bro. Vincent Periera joining Pius X College, Mumbai.


Silver Jubilee Celebration

Sacred Heart Church
, Bidar, celebrated its Silver Jubilee on 15th April 2007. Prior to this, the catholic community at Bidar prepared itself for this event with various spiritual renewal programmes. Priestly ordination of Deacon Anil Prasad, the first of priest of Sacred Heart parish by Most Rev. Robert M Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga, who is also the first missionary of the Bidar mission made the celebration on 15th April 2007 a memorable one. The celebration was attended by most of the priests and religious of the diocese, thousands of catholics from all over Bidar District. A good number of people from other faiths also participated joyously in this unique event. During the impressive cultural programme, organized by the children and youth of the parish, all the parish priests who served the parish in the last 25 years and Sr. Superiors who served the mission at Maria Nilaya Convent, Bidar, were remembered and honored.


Three New High Schools
1. Divya Jyothi High School Bhalki (Kan. Med)
2. St. Josephs High School, Gulbarga (Kan. Med.)
3. St. Marys High School, Kotnoor, Gulbarga, (Eng. Med.) have been started in the diocese in order to reach out to many students, especially the poor, with Gospel values and quality education . While St. Josephs High School, Gulbarga, is run by CSST sisters, other two are run by Gulbarga Diocese Education Society.


St. Anns Clinic (HIV/AIDS Care And Support).
The Jesuit Priests at Bijapur supported by Sisters of Adorers of Blood of Christ have started St. Anns Clinic, a care and support centre for HIV/AIDS infected brothren. In the very first month they admitted 29 patients. It is indeed a great relief for the people of Bijapur city where HIV infection is said to be around 5-7 %.


Sisters as Front Line Missionaries
The religious sisters in Gulbarga have been working in many places as pioneer missionaries. Sr. Ida Lobo of the Holy Spirit has started her mission at Ingalgi-B Village, Afzalpur Taluk of Gulbarga. Sisters of Charity (Maria Bambina) and FMM sisters have made Christian presence possible at Talikot and Chincholi respectively. We congratulate them for their courage and zeal for the Kingdom.


New Episcopal Vicar for Bidar Mission
Rev. Fr. Santhosh Dias, Director of ORBIT and Seva Sangama Development Societies of Gulbarga diocese has been appointed Episcopal Vicar for Bidar Mission in place of Rev Fr. Victor Machado. While thanking Fr. Victor Machado for his services to Bidar mission, we congratulate Fr. Santhosh Dias and wish him well in his new office.


Year of the Children
The diocese celebrating the Year of Children is making all out efforts under the leadership of Fr. Sunil Andrade to form Holy Childhood Associations in all villages, institutes, and parishes wherever we have a good number of catholic children. Fr. Sunil along with his team is working hard to make the Children?s Year a successful one.
