Christ the King Church at Ujini village in Bidar district was inaugurated and Blessed by Most Rev Robert Miranda, the Bishop of Gulbarga on 21 May 2010. The church was with contribution from Pontifical Society of Propagation of Faith, St Peter Claver Sisters, General Vicariate, Cologne, Mons. Diesi and others is one of the biggest churches in Bidar district and also a blessing for all the Catholics of the mission who were longing for a church. Until now they had only a small chapel and most of the feasts were held in the open air ground with several inconveniences. Fr. Albert Crasta , the parish priest had taken lot of pains to realize this dream of the people
 

 

 

Gulbarga diocese is now blessed with Mother Theresa Charitable Hospital which was inaugurated on 7th March 2010 by Sri Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Minister for Labour, and blessed by Most Rev Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga. A host of guests that included all the MLAs of the area, and several other officers, all the priests and sisters working in the diocese along with many faithful were present on the occasion. It is a 40 bed hospital with all the necessary facilities such as OT, NICU, Labour room, X Ray dept, Pharmacy and Laboratory etc,. Through this hospital, the diocese intends to serve the poor people by providing medical facilities at the cheapest rate possible. Thanks to Manos Unidas and Anesvad of Spain who have funded the construction and equipments of the new hospital.

 

 

 

Sacred Heart Chapel at village Kasempur was blessed by Most Rev Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga on 19th June 2010. Village Kasempur is on the border of Karnataka, around 10 k.m from Aurad, the taluka head quarter . Bishop thanked Fr. Albert Crasta who had taken all the troubles to construct this chapel in the remotest part of northern Karnataka. People of all faiths live in harmony and peace. Even though the catholic community is small consisting of 16 families, they are supported well by the non Christian community. A good number of them were present for the Blessing of the Chapel and the public function. It was even more surprising to see them singing Bhajans with our catholic community during the night when our whole community kept awake to sing bhajans. 

 

 

Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights(North- East Zone) : 13th August 2010 was a historic day for the Christian community of north Karnataka. The leaders of christian community in Gulbarga, Bidar, Bijapur and Yadgir districts, irrespective of denomination and Groups decided to come under Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights(North- East Zone) at a meeting held at St. Mary Auditorium, Gulbarga on 13th Aug 2010. The meeting was attended by the Heads of all the churches in the area along with their lay leaders. Most Rev. Robert Miranda, the Bishop of Gulbarga , Rev. Dr. Suresh Mark, Dist Superintendent, Methodist Church, Mr. Sandhyaraj were elected the President, Vice president and the Secretary of the Forum respectively. Other members elected were : VICE-PRESIDENT: MR MITHRA SAMUEL, METHODIST CHURCH.

JOINT SECRETARIES: MR JAIRAJ, GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH and FR VICTOR MACHADDO, CATHOLIC CHURCH TREASURER: REV. JOSEPH, BAPTIST CHURCH ASST. TREASURER: MRS. GLORIA, CATHOLIC CHURCH COMMITTEE MEMBERS: 1.PASTOR PARASHURAM,MISSION INDIA 2.PASTOR PREMDAS, CHURCH OF CHRIST 3.PASTOR PRAKASH, NEW APOSTOLIC CHURCH 4.PASTOR GANESH, NEW LIFE CHURCH ADVISOR: REV. SUMANTH SARADAGI, METHODIST CHURCH Fr. Ronie Prabhu SJ, the Regional Secretary of the KUCFHR was the resource person of the day, explained the gathering of the day about the KUCFHR at the Regional level and its functioning. The members unanimously decided for the Forum.

BLACK DAY OBSERVED IN GULBARGA : 10 th August 2010 was observed as Black Day by members of all Christian denominations in Gulbarga under the banner of United Christian Council, Gulbarga, to voice their feelings against apathy and indifference of the Central Government in protecting the Rights of the Dalit Christians and Muslim who are discriminated ever since the President signed the Constitutional Order 1950 on 10th August. The day’s programme included a Press Conference, Hoisting of the Black Flag, Procession and Rally at the Deputy Commissioners’ Office and submitting of the Memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister, the President and UPA Chair Person. Most Rev. Robert Miranda, the Bishop of Gulbarga hoisted the black flag at St. Mary’s Church and led the procession. UCC president, Mr. Alankar, Fr. Victor Machado, Mr. Louis Kori and Mr. Sandhyaraj and other leaders were present along with a large crowd that joined the Rally.

 

 

 

Mother Theresa Hospital, Gulbarga, begins the Year of the Centenary : Mother Theresa Charitable Hospital began the Centenary Year of Blessed Mother Theresa of Kolkota holding a free Eye Camp at the Hospital on 18th Aug 2010. Dr.Uday Patil, the renowned eye specialist was present to examine and operate on the patients who had gathered in good number. At the short inaugural programme, Bishop Robert addressing the gathering lauded Mother Theresa’s contribution to the Humanity, especially her role in restoring human dignity to the sick, orphans, the aged and hundreds of dying people on streets of Calcutta, and gave a call to the Hospital Administration to continue serving the suffering humanity in the same spirit of the Patroness. He expressed the hope that there will be many other programmes to follow as a part of the year long celebration. Dr. Deshmukh, Dr. Mrs. Maya, Sr. Rose Mathew, were present. Fr. Austin Fernandes, Asst. Director, managed the programme while Fr. Victor Machado, Director welcomed the gathering.
